Good early language skills are vital for children to transition from early years to primary school successfully. Recent research by Save the Children found that six children in every reception class in England struggled with their early language skills. Children starting nursery with poor early language skills can have a negative impact on school readiness I offer 1:1 support in your own home where a child feels safe and comfortable . I offer 1 hour sessions and during these times we read stories, sing and play together all linked to early communication strategies. Each session is planned upon the child's own individual needs. I support you as parents to help your child to increase their confidence and skills in speaking and listening. Are you struggling to get an NHS appointment for your 2-4 year old or having to wait a long time. I can support you in the intrim and if needed/wanted can continue to support you and your child up to pre-school age. Reviews: September 2019 Closure/Evaluation of a boy aged 2-4 years worked with for 2 years - once a week. supported the family with speech and language support and then aided and supported the family through the Diagnoses process for ASD and entry to school EHCP "Frankly. I don't know what we would have done without your help,not just with speech and therapy but also guidance in getting a diagnosis for our son. the support in all the meetings, providing us with detailed comprehensive written reports whenever we have needed them and encouragement and reassurance you have given us at every stage. It has been invaluable to have the benefit of your experience and my son and I will really miss our weekly sessions with you. What information did you find most useful.? All of it. hard to chose one thing but in particular all the detailed written reports , which were a huge help providing evidence for diagnosis. EHCP etc, Also guide to show what a child should be saying/doing for their age. What difference has it made to you as a parent? The sessions have been wonderful because they gave me a sense of actually doing something to help my son. They also gave my son a sense of continuity and ongoing support with is something that has been sadly absent from NHS services. What difference have the session made to your child? He looks forward to the sessions every week and not only have we seen a significant improvement in his speech but also in his ability to concentrate on activities,which in turn will be a huge help to him when he starts school. Would you recommend me to others? Absolutely! If i meet other parents experiencing similar difficulties you will be the first person i recommend.
Home visit review./evaluation Aug 2019 Support for a boy aged just 4. for 6 weeks through summer before starting school. What information was most useful? I've learnt different games i can play with my son and different things to look out for when he talks. What strategies or ideas do you feel have helped you in supporting your child? I have started to repeat what he says rather than trying to correct him and we now read and use characters. What difference have the sessions made to you a a parent? (7 sessions) I have found it easier to talk with my son using the "whats in the box" game for conversations. What difference have the sessions made to your child? He is more confident with his speech and regularly asks for help or tells me how hes feeling rather than just whining,throwing himself on the floor, Would you recommend to others? 100% Thank you so much for your help we've seen a really positive effect and we are very thankful.
Home visit review July 2019 ( 2 children aged 5/7) What information did you find most useful. ? The information to support sounds,how to deal with incorrect sounds with the children and games/interactive ways to support them. What strategies or ideas do you feel helped in supporting your child? Learning through play and reward i.e creative art at the end. Being able to learn from watching and listening. What difference have the sessions made to you as a parent? Provided more confidence and personal support. I have really enjoyed the sessions and sitting down together to play and practice What difference have the sessions made to your children? - Provided independent support to the family. Helping them to know its OK to not be perfect at everything and practice is important. They enjoy the sessions and really like Judith. Home Visit Review August 2018 The support has been very helpful as parents to know how to play with children in the right way and what to say. Case study - Sept 2016 - Aug 2017 "M.O" dob 12.12 - I worked with 'M' at her setting once a week and in the home for 3 months for a total of 12 months. At first she had very little confidence in using language and was very shy. Around 40% of her speech and language were unrecognisable. After grommets were fitted we practiced lots of listening activities in small groups with no pressure on her to join in but as her confidence began to grow she started to take part and is now a confident child willing to participate in all talking and listening activities, with most of of speech and language now recognisable. M is going on to school with SLT support in the school. This is her parents evaluation in response to the questions. What information did you find useful? "All info supplied was useful, from the early stages through to the sticker/colouring sheets and activities left for homework/play" What strategies or ideas do you feel helped in supporting your child? "playing games and reading books has helped to support M. They have been interactive and fun " What difference have the sessions made to you as a parent? "Sitting in on the sessions helped me to understand the strategies used. This was then mimicked at home, Judith gave us the tools to work with" What difference have the sessions made to your child?
